The Role

SensorUp is seeking an exceptional Staff Machine Learning Data Scientist to join our Engineering team. As an end-to-end data scientist leader, you will spearhead the design, development, and deployment of innovative machine learning solutions that revolutionize the customer experience. In our cross-functional organization, you’ll work closely with colleagues across the entire engineering stack, including backend, frontend, and platform developers. Owning the entire data science lifecycle - from model conception to training and production rollout, you’ll be the key architect shaping the future of data science at SensorUp. This role will report to an Engineering Manager.

  • Execute the end-to-end lifecycle of projects from planning to data collection, model development, and, deployment, while setting standards for high quality code, design, and cost tracking
  • Design the MLOps framework to create, build, and deploy data science models including automations for monitoring and testing
  • Communicate highly complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences as a stakeholder manager to define success criteria and metrics and evangelize data science across the organization
  • Work with customers and partners to ensure successful interaction and delivery of SensorUp solutions
  • Research and stay up to date on new data science and machine learning technologies from both academia and industry to keep SensorUp on the cutting edge of science and technology
  • Coach and mentor team members from a range of levels and backgrounds, as well as participate in hiring committees
Your Experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience as an individual contributor in predictive analytics, data science, machine learning, or similar
  • Extensive experience in applicable programming languages such as Python, relational and non-relational databases such as GraphQL and DynamoDB, and machine learning pipeline tools such as Argo, Kubeflow, etc., all in a cloud environment such as AWS
  • Expertise in building end-to-end data science pipelines from data to delivery including deployment, testing, and monitoring
  • Practical experience with best practices of MLOps including design documentation, unit testing, integration testing, and source control
  • Proven ability to bridge the gap between broad business needs and technical execution by defining clear project scope and objectives from loose initial requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical aspects of your work to team members, stakeholders, and customers
  • An interest in solving complex problems relating to reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector.  
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Creativity to find solutions and difficult compromises in balancing the problems, the pace, and the customer experience.
  • Possess an understanding and desire to learn more regarding engineering, product design, marketing, and product management processes.
